~Humans are complicated~

Caught Confession of Pain with Desmond on Thu starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Shu Qi. It was not bad considering it touched on the emotional struggles of the main leads and their lives. Bong (played by Takeshi Kaneshiro) quits his job as a police officer and turns to drinking to numb himself of the pain of losing his pregnant girlfriend. Not knowing why she chose to leave him in such a manner, he embarks on the quest to investigate the reason behind her death, going to the bar where she was last seen daily to try to pick up clues which would give a proper closure to her death. Although he has lost his motivation to live well, his detective skills are still sharp and he became a private detective. Veteran detective Hei (played by Tony Leung) is a weary soul who has seen it all despite the apparent surface where he leads a blissful life with his wife Susan. City people may seem to have many material possessions yet deep down inside they are lost and lacking in emotional maturity and comfort.

The story complicates when Susan's father is brutally murdered and Susan enlists the help of Bong to investigate the case as she was convinced there was suspicions surrounding the case.

As Bong probes further, he realises that things are not what they seem and Susan's mental health is questioned. The shocking truth emerges at the end and perhaps what Tom Cruise exclaimed in a movie before says it all, "You can't handle the truth."

This movie touched on certain issues which may occur in real life. What if one day the person you loved chose to leave you without a word leaving behind all the doubts and questions in your head? Bong's gf had a relationship with another man and the child she was pregnant with was with the other guy. She was waiting at the bar for this man at the bar before she went home slitting both her wrists and lying in bed. It was excruciating to see Bong who loved her so much to put himself through hell to cope with her death. Yet when the truth emerged, he was able to recover his inner peace and let go of the past by forgiving the guy and his gf whom he loved too dearly to hate her. The vengence Hei chose to unleash on the people who were close to him was not entirely senseless. There is a reason for whatever actions we choose to take but losing kinship and your humanity at the expense of exacting a vendetta creates a monster in people. Although we can justify any action we do, some affect others who care for us and whatever grievances we have suffered does not mean we need to take revenge or ensure that whatever wrongs we have gone through means the perpetrators need to pay in full or even many times over. Being human encompasses the ability to feel for others and thinking rationally on what we can do for others may need to precede over our own personal interests.
However, people are selfish and complicated creatures. Sometimes depsite knowing that they may get hurt themselves in addition to hurting others, they would still choose to do things the way they wanted. I guess people have conscience to remind them of the consequences of doing bad or wrong things so even if they are not punished by a body of authority or the social group around them, the emotional anguish they suffer from comes in the form of guilt would be much worse. Granted humans are fallible, they have never been perfect. There isn't a 100% good person as we all have our flaws which negate the good we have done. Morals? What are they actually? A specific set of behavior and thought laid down by society by and large to ensure people do not fall out of the group or something to control the hedonistic and selfish tendencies of people?

On Fri, went for the Jocelyn Wales seminar which was freaking boring and was rather enthusiatic on starting my French class but registering late meant that the class was postponed to 23 Feb as they could not meet the minimum number of people to enrol for class. I made the minimum number of persons to start a class and I could only blame my slow response for the postponement. Went over to visit Auntie Sao Lan and my cousins Andy and Alan as their home was rather near. Missed the times we used to play Monopoly together and Andy always wins save for a few times. Had dinner there and spoke to Andy the most. Actually a bit shocked to see Andy bigger than he used to. Andy used to be as dashing as my idol Andy Lau but he's still cute la. He blames it on the power of love :p . I think when couples are together they are forever finding places to eat and both partners ends up putting on weight. Geez. I'm scared! We used to quarrel as kids but now that we are grown up we are much more cordial and polite to each other.Being born in the year of the pig, I suppose that's why I have this tendency to fall asleep after a meal (particularly after breakfast). I was rather sleepy and I was nonsensical taking pictures of everything I could see.
My cousin Andy, a graphic designer who's 24 and who's very tall (1.79m). Used to say that I wanna be taller than he is. "P Alan who's 27 and a computer expert. He's always making funny faces and expression. Never can grow old !
This snowman is so cute. He looks all geared up to ice skid. He's worth a grand total of S$11+.

Andy has lotsa stuff and toys on his table. Look at these (Jack and that kid in The Nightmare Before Christmas and the chipmunk). He has a whole display cupboard of anime figurines of girls with long legs and revealing clothes. I'll take pics of them next t ime when I'm visiting again. Proof of how hard it is to take a pic of more than 2 ppl with a camera phone.

On Sat, met Addy with Darling for tea (coz it was almost 4pm though it was lunch for her) after meeting darling at the Orchard control station. So far Addy has seen my first 2 exes while the rest are just names to her. We had a great time catching up on what we have been doing lately and Addy passed me this beauty aid which can create double eyelids without resorting to using sticky tape which looks so artificial. So kind of her "). Addy was telling Darling to feed me with more food coz I was too skinny. Geez. Wouldn't want to get fatter. Anyway, Addy looks stunning with this perm. Guess seeing her with poker straight hair since primary school is a little boring and this is a refreshing change.

Do we look like sisters?

After tea, Addy had to rush to Bishan while Darling and I was walking around to shop for a birthday gift. At Cineleisure, Darling got a pair of silky purple shorts for me for $10. We took some neoprints at Heeren after that.

Finally got our birthday pressie for our dear friend after Miss Mindy was being sidetracked a lot which annoyed Darling a little as I was looking at dresses and lingerie. Oops. We had Hokkien mee and green tea at a small eating place at Far East Plaza. Darling remarked that everyone was looking at me coz of my dress throughout the day but I guessed the real reason is I look like a grown up woman taking my younger brother for a date :p. After having the late supper, Darling and I went on our separate ways. saw Guolin on the bus and we chatted till I reached my home bus stop. Had a headache from walking too much I suppose.

Went to JB with Jackson on Sun to make my contact lens. Jackson was appalled that I was wearing only one lens when I couldn't see him clearly a few days ago so he insisted I should do something about it, hence the JB trip to get CHEAP lens (RM 200 nia compared to S$150 for half year supply). We had Kenny Rogers for lunch and dessert before catching this show Wedding Date at 530pm. Anyway, somehow we were amazed the cab drivers touting could single us out as Singaporeans. Hmm, is it coz of our dressing? Cannot be the way we talk as we hadn't opened our golden mouths.

After dessert, Jackson was extremely bored so he took this pic of me sans lip gloss and eyeliner. Gee, my face feels naked without full makeup.

Wedding Date was about this lady Katherine who hired a social escort Nick for 6000 pounds who was very popular and had shared his experiences on a magazine as a you guessed it a wedding date. Nick was knowledgeable, charming, good-looking and knows women very well. He tries to make Katherine love herself more and lets her learn to accept love and let go of the old in the process. Katherine wanted to make her ex Jeffrey jealous as he had left her like a wreck for 7 years as she had no idea why he left her after being engaged. Jeffrey was the best man (they are best friends) of the groom Ed (A blur but sweet caring guy) and the bride was Katherine's younger sister, Amy. The movie follows the week before Amy and Ed's big day. Jackson remarked that the movie lacked emotional depth but seriously this type of chick flick would feel too heavy with all the emotions if it had to explore everything. I would still say go watch this movie anyway as it's rather enjoyable for there are some lovable characters like TJ (a woman who always cracked people up without even trying to be funny in the first place) and Woody(Kat's ex).

Well, Katherine falls in love with Nick in the process and we learn of the truth behind Jeffrey. Jeffrey slept with Amy after his engagement with Katherine and they carried on their relationship even after Ed and Amy started dating. Katherine felt betrayed by her own sister and we could see the sister rivalry between the two. Even though Amy was the prettier of the two, Katherine was always the one who received more attention at school and at home, being popular, dating the cutest guys, achieving the best results and all. Amy was jealous of Katherine since young and the wedding was the only thing she felt made her the star for once.

Katherine only knew of the truth a day before the wedding and she felt let down as she seemed to be the last person to know of the horrid truth. Amy chose to tell Ed about her infidelity before the wedding and he was furious with his best friend and the woman he love. Anyway, Jeffrey was a jerk and he was no longer the best man on the day of the wedding and the place went to Nick. All was well after Nick sounded Ed out on forgiving Amy for her huge mistake. Nick stopped working as a social escort after getting together for real with Katherine.

Was wondering if betrayals hurt more from our partners, family or friends and I conclude the first two are the most stinging. To obtain the forgiveness of our partners we would be counted lucky if we ever did something to break their hearts. Sometimes I guess we may end up falling in love with people coz we connect well with them and we choose to let our feelings take over our heads. There's actually a lot of rationalisation in love. Monogamy is a conscious and rational decision to stay true and loyal to your loved one. Placing lots of effort is another decision we make coz we want the relationship to work. I guess being hedonistic, if people do not have the capacity to think, we would be hooking up with people like promiscuous animals. For excitement or thrill of experiencing something new or novel or truly feelings develop in infidelity in relationships, nevertheless it isn't right.

I recall watching In the Mood for Love by Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung who were neighbours in the shows. Their respective spouses were cheating on each other and they themselves were tempted to be together but Maggie Cheung's character did not want to pursue the affair as it was something society disapproved on and she was mindful of how she was looked at by people. In addition, as a woman she felt that she should be loyal and faithful to her husband even though he had cheated on her. The subtle nuances and longing gazes which the two leads cast upon each other showed how much they felt for each other. Sometimes you may be with someone only to realise there is someone else whom you loved more or felt for more yet circumstances will not allow you to be together.

After watching the movie, Jackson and I came back to Singapore to have dinner at the Hong Kong cafe at East Coast Road. While waiting for our food...

Extremely bored watching some HK drama abt this Xiao Yu er and Little Fairy getting married on TvWhere's our food??

Almond cream with peanut Tang Yuan and Almond cream with red bean paste. Jackson stirred the mixture until it looks like the color of shit. Eew!My secret to beautiful skin is almond cream!Jackson enjoying his tang yuan...

No he enjoyed the red bean thingie but he's pretending to dislike it!

After our meals, 2 happy satisfied people finally!

Jackson's artistic shot of me as he calls it??!! dopez

Well, this week ended well but I have lost my voice and pardon me if I sound like a man. Coughing like nobody's business till I awake many times in the night and I miss drinking cold drinks :( That's all for today!
