Seriously this is the first time I received so many birthday wishes.. And I genuinely feel loved and cared for by all my friends. :D haha sounds so mushy, think it's been ages since I felt on top of the world since a long time. Hee. Maybe coz this year my expectations were close to zilch for my birthday and then pleasant surprises keep popping up.

Started off the day by waking up early for Pfitzer's follow up at 8.30 am. This time it was a breezy affair but moi was the last to complete the procedures of taking blood pressure, body temperature, give urine sample, take blood test and see doctor namely coz I had trouble giving the urine sample (as usual). Couldn't pass out enough for the first two times and I ended up gulping down 4 cups of plain water and 1 packet of soya milk. Had a packet of chocolate biscuits which tasted divine especially when you are famished.

After a long time of waiting I managed to give the required urine sample. Pfitzer gave every participant a big thermal mug. Handy for ma to put her coffee which she drinks every morning and keep it warm. So much water and it made me going the toilet quite often subsequently.
I felt like a spoilt princess asking the guys if we could have our morning break at the foodcourt in Bugis Junction and not the coffee shop in Bugis Street :p (coz I wanted aircon.. Shh). In the end, Kana, Fauzi, Wee Boon, Danny, Alan and I walked to a coffeeshop at Seah Street as the food court was under renovation. Felt kinda guilty for making everyone wait for me. Had a good chat with all of them. Will miss them a lot as it may be difficult to be together in the same study again. :P But will try to keep in touch though.

Danny and I at Raffles Hospital last week
Wee Boon my good brother!, Kana And Fauzi last week at Raffles Hospital

Kana, Alan (at least he obliged me for a picture despite hating to take pics :P), moi and Wee Boon (dress so nice you think he's going for a date but actually he was going to lunch with mum :P)

After the morning break, I waited a short while for Joey in Wee Boon's car parked in the public carpark beside Raffles Hospital as I had left my stuff which included Joey's birthday pressie, my birthday pressie from Wee Boon (a kitty bank, more motivation to drop some coins in) and a brolly. As Wee Boon was attempting to drive out of the parking lot, some asshole decided to just cut through and he uttered "Fuck!" Kinda surprised me coz Wee Boon is normally quite mild mannered and I hadn't heard any profanities from him. He apologised which I thought wasn't necessary as I would have been more agitated than him if I was in his shoes.

Was quite surprised to see Joey had crossed the traffic road junction and he was actually on the pavement near the carpark. Although it was the first time we had met, it didn't feel awkward and we could chat freely as if we had known each other for some time. It helped that we had conversed over msn several times and chatted over the phone a few times before we met up.

We took a train from Bugis to City Hall to have lunch at Sushi Tei, my fave Japanese restaurant for affordable food and an elegant, inviting ambience (I so dislike the crappy Sakae Sushi which has a crass ambience and expensive food which don't taste remotely exquisite given what we are paying. Not to mention the snaking long queues. Are people crazy or what?). And so we had a substantial lunch as you can see. The only dish we did not finish was the cold tofu due to its tasteless nature and it's probable it was a case of not so fresh tofu as it was a little hard and not soft and silky which will slip down your throat. We had rice with the salmon mushroom cream which is my must have dish everytime I'm there. That's the star dish I think but then again I have not tried that many dishes except for the normal items like sushi and all which are of a high standard already.

Halfway through the meal, we exchanged birthday gifts and we were kinda surprised we both had the same gifts for each other: stars we had folded. Given our fondness for stargazing we had in mind what we wanted to get for each other as a birthday gift. In addition, Joey passed me an artificial red rose which I loved. I adore roses whether it's real or artficial and in fact i felt that even though the real ones are stunning, it was a pity their beauty is short-lived whereas the fake ones are gorgeous and have a lasting life. Cold soba with pork cutlet, cold tofu, chawanmushi & softshell crab sushi
salmon mushroom cream (my fave must have dish at this restaurant)

After our meal, we went over to Orchard Cineleisure to get our tickets for Lust, Caution (R21 version, tsk tsk :P) which was to start at 3.30 pm. We did a little window shopping before we had to rush to catch our movie. The good news is the female usher asked to check our ICs and seriously I'm happy (lol), which means that both of us looked young. Missed a little of the introduction but it didn't mar our enjoyment of the movie.

It was understandable why the movie attracted so much controversy: the sex scenes were explicit and they looked extremely convincing. Some of the sex scenes were rather sado-masochistic and this was due to the highly repressed nature of Tony Leung's character who exhibited such tendencies in private. The ending was rather sad but amazingly although this was a powerful film at no point of time did I feel compelled to shed any tears. Yes I was sad but somehow I couldn't exactly empathise fully with the characters. Tang Wei and Tony Leung gave excellent performances in this film and it would be a loss if you don't catch this film.

After the movie, Joey and I decided to get the Death Note and a blue bunny we had set our eyes upon. He suggested that we get them for each other as birthday pressies so we wouldn't be feeling guilty about spending on ourselves which made a lot of sense. We were extremely pleased with our "accidental" pressies. Later on, we popped by Heeren to take a few neoprints to document this significant special day.

Subsequently, we walked to Plaza Singapura to have our dinner before catching Stardust at 8.40pm. The reviews for the show hadn't been exactly kind but probably having a whimsical fairytale set in a fantasy world may seem too dream like and unreal to some people. However, for dreamers like Joey and myself it was an enjoyable time in the theatre where we were lost in another land, away from the drudgery of the present reality. We happen to bump into Joey's friends after the movie which wasn't entirely unexpected as Joey had informed me that his friends had also booked tickets online for this movie and at the same timing.

Joey and I headed to the land of blue stars afterwards. It was amazing and surreal. I never knew such a place existed. Where you would forget your reality and present. Alas the stars vanished after a short 10 minutes. At 11.45pm, Joey started to write a poem on his Death Note (not the one i bought him) which he finished at midnight. As it was really dark I used my mobile phone's light for illumination so that he could see what he was writing.

By Candlelight (by Joey Kum copyrighted)

Your eyes speak,

as do you,

endlessly,

as I feel your world,

a story very familiar.

I felt the joy,

I ached with your pain,

I sat with you here,

in the land of blue stars.

Hopeful always,

I wish to lend you wings,

but I have but one,

and I sense an angel other,

waiting to be spread wide,

to take to the skies,

into the untold fairytale of tomorrow.

After a few minutes, Nicholas called to wish me a happy birthday and we chatted for a while before bro called me to chat. Bro got to speak to Joey and they had a mutual liking to each other as if they were good friends :p (Nah, no meaning la, not Brokeback). We spent 2 hours chatting before we decided to return to Cineleisure by foot for some french toast and mango snow ice at the Hong Kong cafe. We were pretty bloated and we decided to sit on a bench to chat somemore. The whole day passed very quickly in a twinking of an eye. It was if time was being fast forwarded for the entire day. It was an unusual birthday as it was the first time I spent it with someone I met for the first time. And I can't describe how ironic it was to know someone for less than 2 weeks, yet strangely because we can understand each other and share uncanny similarities in character and liking, it was as if we had known each other from a previous life.

We hailed a cab around 415am and I reached home around 430am. Joey was quite gentlemanly in sending me right to my lift even though I had told him earlier on that it was quite safe for me to walk home myself. I was quite exhausted by then and it was a short while before I drifted off to dreamland, thankful that I had experienced an idyllic birthday when the last two birthdays were filled with sorrow. And all this would not have happened if Joey hadn't spontaneously made plans to celebrate our birthdays together. It was amazing how a Facebook application called Human Pets allowed our paths to cross each other. Someone who "rescued" me from the perverse owners I had and it progressed to getting to know each other beyond a superficial level. A seeming stranger brought more joy on my birthday than people whom I was close to for my previous birthdays and if this was not a sign of blessings from the heavens above, I wonder what is. Thank you Joey!
